Project Brief:
Utilizing knowledge of Lightroom alongside any camera you have access to, capture images of yourself, others, or anything that may be of inspiration to you for future endeavours. Using these images, create a book in Lightroom and edit each individual image to create a cohesive style throughout.
Capturing and Editing Process:
As someone who has always been inspired by the beauty, cosmetics, and skincare industry, I decided for this project that I would attempt to style beauty and skincare products in order to create a book which utilized texture and color to give the viewer a different understanding of the products that were featured.
Utilizing only products that I had in my cabinets and around my apartment in Boulder, I feel that I was able to capture a new perspective on the products.
To begin, I selected some food and drink products in my kitchen that I (nor my roommates) did not mind using for the styling. I grabbed matcha powder, milk, water, yogurt, honey, flour, aluminum foil, babys breath flowers, writing icing, dried oranges, and some leftover packaging I had from a recent beauty find that was mailed to me. I challenged myself to not buy anything new for this project. I also decided to grab an acrylic stand that typically raises my laptop on my desk in order to add some dimension to the images.
I began laying out the products and styling them as if they were all for one brand in order to maintain consistency. I kept the lighting the same for the entirety of the shoot and also made sure that the products texture and colors were being kept in mind as well. I wanted to keep everything light and airy and aimed for a white and bright background that would allow for the color of the products to shine. In some cases I allowed for the products to be slightly spilled or damaged to show things like pigmentation, consistency, and color.
After taking all of the images using my iPhone camera, I downloaded them all into Lightroom and began editing. I wanted the pictures to be slightly grainy to show texture and depth and I also kept the edits nearly the same for each image, only changing certain things if absolutley necessary to maintain consistency.
Some of my favorites from the project can be seen below and the remainder of the images can be found in the attached PDF.
