Report Brief:
The purpose behind the extensive research for this project was to determine the feasibility of the positions Schultze Asset Management had during the debt crisis and bankruptcy of Puerto Rico. The goal of the project was to provide the company with a recommendation on how to proceed given the current economic, financial, political, and social state of the territory and whether or not their positions would be successful in the near future.
Report Process:
The research process began with the disclosure agreement for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. It was important to gain a deep understanding of the agreement so that it could later be determined that, given all the facts, the investment firm, Schultze Asset Management, could be successful.
Given the disclosure agreement and other supporting legal documentation, I was to summarize my findings succinctly, only passing information along that was relevant to the company. Data within these legal documents was then pulled in order to create accurate projections in Microsoft Excel for the allocation of the debt stack, demographic information, and financial growth.
I then was able to understand the debt restructuring process in full, allowing me to listen to live court trials of the passing of the Debt Restructuring Plan which would aid in proving accurate and updated recommendations for the company.
Finally, I summarized my findings in a 17 page report (which can be downloaded for further reference above) which was then to be sent to the company. I also gave a brief 20 minute report on my findings, making sure that everyone would be able to understand the report. This presentation consisted of the background of the bankruptcy, demographics of Puerto Rico, political and natural factors that had effects on the debt stack, the restructuring plan, and my final recommendations for the company.
Below you can find the Microsoft Excel sheets that were created in order to make financial projections, understandthe allocation of the debt stack, demographics, and fiscal plans for future years in Puerto Rico.
